Frequently asked questions
Straight answers — including the ones about what we don't do yet.
How up to date are these figures?
They're estimates, not live award availability. How they're made: our own estimate from flight distance — not published award charts or live seats. Taxes also reflect our estimate of each airline's surcharge level.
The data behind them was last checked: Amex UK transfer ratios and times on 27 Sept 2026; which airlines fly which routes on 27 Sept 2026 (re-checked at least every 90 days). Every result is labelled "Estimate, not live availability" — always check award seats with the airline before transferring points.
How do transfers work?
Bank points, like Amex Membership Rewards, aren't airline miles. You move them into an airline programme at that partner's set ratio, and the ratio is not always 1:1 — "2:1" means 2 bank points buy 1 airline mile.
Amex UK's current partners, ratios and transfer times (from Amex UK's partner page, checked 27 Sept 2026): British Airways Club 1:1 (instant); Qatar Airways Privilege Club 1:1 (up to 48 hours); Iberia Club 1:1 (4 working days); Virgin Atlantic Flying Club 1:1 (instant, allow up to 48 hours); Emirates Skywards 2:1 (2 working days — Amex's own page gives two different times); Singapore KrisFlyer 3:2 (15 working days); Flying Blue 1:1 (4 working days); Cathay 1:1 (3 working days); Delta SkyMiles 1:1 (up to 48 hours — Amex's own page gives two different times); Qantas Frequent Flyer 1:1 (3 business days); SAS EuroBonus 1:1 (5 working days).
Transfer times range from instant to many working days, and Amex says all points transfers are final — so check award seats with the airline before you move any points.
Is Slipstream free?
Yes. Searching is free and needs no account, and our estimates will stay free for good. Paid search packs will only be for live seat availability, when it launches: pay once for a pack of searches, no subscription.
Packs: £9.99 for 5 searches; £24.99 for 25 searches.
The first 50 people to join early access get 10 free searches when search packs launch.
How do you make money?
Today, we don't. Searching is free and needs no account, and the partner slots on the site show "Coming soon".
When they launch, we'll make money in two ways: referral commission on some partner links, and paid search packs (pay once for a pack of searches, no subscription).
Neither changes which redemption we rank best.
Do I need an account?
No. Type what points you have and where you'd like to go, and results appear straight away — no sign-up.
Which airlines and programmes do you cover?
Airlines: Emirates, Qatar Airways, Singapore Airlines, British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, Etihad Airways, Air France, Cathay Pacific. Amex UK Membership Rewards transfer into Skywards Miles, Avios, KrisFlyer Miles, Virgin Points, Flying Blue Miles, Asia Miles. Etihad Guest Miles can only be used if you already hold them — Amex UK no longer transfers there.
If none of these airlines flies the route you ask for, we say so plainly rather than inventing options.
Where does the route data come from?
Which airlines fly which routes comes from the "Airlines and destinations" tables on Wikipedia's airport pages, taken from specific page revisions and re-checked at least every 90 days. For the busiest routes we check each airline's own website too, and where they disagree the airline wins. Each route page links the exact sources it uses.
